As I stood over my mothers’ bed, I was overwhelmed by
emotion. My father could sense my chakra levels rising as my sorrow deepened.
He reached out his hand the grab my shoulder, but I quickly smacked it away. I
knew it was not his fault, but my rage took over and the only way I could look
at my father was with pure disgust.
He was taken back. Father had never been on the receiving
end of my rage. “Why… why are you giving me that look?” He asked with dumbfound
look on his face.
“Why did you keep her from me… Why was I never allowed to
see her…? You said she would be fine…” I tried to calm myself, but my
frustration won that fight.
“Nikushimi and the rest of the clan believed it would be
best if you weren’t distracted by such things.” He replied, knowing the answer
would not satisfy me.
“Such things?” my blood began to boil, “SUCH THINGS?! WHAT
THE HELL IS THAT SUPPOSED TO MEAN? SHE WAS MY MOTHER! NOT SOME INCONVENIENCE!”
My father’s face switched from confused to enraged, “Watch
your tone with me boy. She was MY wife… Don’t you DARE question the decision we
made together.”
“Oh, I dare. You say you made it together, but whose
well being were you truly considering? Mom and I’s or the clans,” a clear
bitterness escaped my lips, “Maybe if you had prioritized the people you SHOULD
have cared more about, mom wouldn’t be…”
Before I could finish my statement, I felt my father’s fist
hit my face.
“I ABANDONED MY FUTURE FOR YOU AND YOUR MOTHER!” My father
exclaimed while having over me.
There was a pause as we both froze, eyes locked with one
another. After a few moments, the realization of what he had caused my father’s
face to soften once more.
“Are you ok, Ryu?” he stuttered.
As I rose to my feet, I drew my kunai from its holster and
pointed it at my father, “Get out.” I said sharply.
My father turned to leave the room. As he lingered in the
door way, he looked over his shoulder, as if to say some final words, but
instead he glanced over at my mother’s body. He let out a sad sigh and left the
room.
I laid mother to rest in the rainbow meadow that we once
loved to train in together. It all felt like such a distant memory now. I never
imagined I’d be here now saying my final goodbye.
“Mother, I’m so sorry I didn’t come to see you sooner… I
know you suffered by the hand of the Shobuto. You were the best thing in my
life and I will never forget you. I will continue to practice everything you
taught me both in battle and in life.”
I felt a tear escape me as I turned to walk away from her
grave. I couldn’t let my heartache distract me from what I knew I needed to do
next. I had to confront my uncle and the rest of the clan and make them pay for
the wrong they have done.
